Making Scents Out of Life

Our Story

Making Scents Out of Life

Ouch! In the fall of 2020, my beautiful MT Autumn just turned into a fall (the other kind of fall). A slight mishap found me in the emergency room with a broken right foot. Hobbling around in a big, obtrusive boot and homebound, I decided to try my hand at making a few candles. Arming myself with a lot of internet videos and a starter candle making kit, I jumped in. Before long, I began trialing different waxes and a multitude of scents. If I couldn't get out and enjoy the Montana outdoors, then it's majesty was going to have to come to me...in the form of candles and aromatic candle fragrances.

A lot of trial and error went into those early candles, but friends and family liked the results. My husband and I transformed the basement into a candle studio, and my evenings and weekends were spent producing a candle with a non toxic, slow burning wax, coupled with an array of unique, Montana inspired scents. With a lot more experimentation, a re-usable concrete vessel was born. With a striking glow and a splash of copper, it too, brought the great Montana outdoors into our home.

We are blessed to have a gently sloping backyard filled with pine and sage with a magnificent Bitterroot Mountain backdrop. Deer and elk meander at will. It is this inspiring view that led to the formation of Pine and Sage Candles. In some small way, we hope our candles may bring just a little bit of the beauty of the great Montana outdoors into your home.

We hope you enjoy our candles.

Our Candles

All of our candles are hand poured in small batches in our studio in Stevensville, Montana. We use plant based, all natural coconut wax.

Why coconut wax instead of soy wax?

Coconuts do not require fertilizer or pesticides to grow, unlike soy wax. Coconuts are harvested by hand, non-GMO, eco-friendly and a sustainable crop. Coconut wax is known for its ability to burn slowly and cleanly. As a consumer, you get more bang for your buck because your candle will last longer. The 6 oz tins will burn for approxiamtely 40 hours. Coconut wax is also known for an optimal hot throw. Hot throw is very important. This is the strength of the smell of the candle when lit in a room.

We use pthalate free fragrance oils blended with quality ingredients, including essential oils.

Our vessels can be repurposed. The handmade concrete bowls are easy to clean and offer a new life after enjoying your candle. The candle tins can be recycled if you choose not to reuse.
